Keller Rohrback L.L.P. Announces Investigation of Payday Lenders Checkmate and Cash 1, LLC

SEATTLE, March 24, 2011 (GlobeNewswire) – Attorney Advertising. Keller Rohrback L.L.P. (www.krcomplexlit.com) announces that it is investigating possible claims against Washington payday lenders Checkmate and Cash 1, LLC, among others, for alleged deceptive practices related to payday loans to borrowers to purchase $100 gift cards.

The investigation focuses on the various lenders’ alleged attempts to evade Washington’s legal limits on payday loans by structuring the loans in the form of gift cards to retailers such as Safeway, Fred Meyer, Wal-Mart and others. These gifts card “loans” are called “retail installment loan programs” and “revolving charge agreements” and are marketed as an alternative to payday loans, and result in borrowers paying excessive finance charges and late fees.

  • Advance America
  • Cash AdvantEdge
  • Cash 1 LLC
  • Check Into Cash
  • Checkmate
  • Check Masters
  • Money Mart
  • Moneytree
  • SuperPawn

If you have received gift cards from payday lenders, have received loans totaling over $700, or have taken out more than 8 loans in a 12-month period, or if you have fallen behind in your payments and have not been offered no-cost payment plans, or have relevant information please contact paralegal Annie Kent or attorneys Laura Gerber or Lynn Sarko at 800.776.6044 or via email at info@kellerrohrback.com
